Erin Valentine is a current Women & Gender Studies Master’s student at Arizona State University. Her research focuses are body image and the portrayal of plus-size women in media.
She graduated from Elon University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism, with minors in International Studies and Women/Gender Studies.
She was a Communications Fellow, received the Presidential Scholarship at her university, and was on the Dean’s List. Erin has written for and been an editor at both her university’s newspaper, The Pendulum, and student magazine, The Edge.
She completed undergraduate research as a first year on the Occupy Movement in US newspapers and its effect on advertising. She presented her findings at multiple conferences and forums. In the summer of 2013, Erin completed an internship at Modern Luxury Media as an editorial assistant and in the summer of 2014 she completed an editorial internship with WNC Magazine in Asheville, NC.
Having traveled to multiple countries and experienced many diverse cultures, understanding the world is a great interest of Erin’s. In the spring of 2014, she circumnavigated the globe with Semester At Sea. She hopes to continue her travels for the rest of her life.
